We helped develop the YMCA of Greater Toronto’s first Climate Resilience Strategy. This included outreach and education to various team members including senior management, the C-suite, and the Board. We are now helping implement this ambitious initiative including the focus to evolve the current YMCA Centres of Community into Community Resilience Centre. These centres are being designed to have low-carbon and resilient energy systems capable of supporting the public as emergency community reception centres, even if the electrical grid has failed due to their islanding and backup power abilities. In addition to strategy development, we’re providing feasibility, budgeting, grant application and management, and project management support across multiple locations. We’ve also performed a portfolio-wide climate risk identification study to highlight the specific climate risks that the Y should be planning for and which locations they are likely to be most prevent.
