Innovative embodied carbon scenario analysis for new construction and renovation

Year: 2021 Client: Confidential Utility Location: Canada

Mantle Developments supported a confidential Canadian utility company by calculating the embodied carbon associated with various building archetypes including structure, envelope, mechanical and plumbing systems, and refrigerant leakage. These calculations were performed for 14 building archetypes, both Part 3 and Part 9 building types, and for both new construction and existing building renovations. Various efficiency levels were considered. The goal was to see how low carbon emissions could reach between now and 2050 given various levels of ambition on building efficiency design and other low-carbon energy options. Sensitivity analysis was performed for zero-carbon grids and lower GWP refrigerants and materials.
